Remembering is an act of resurrection, each repetition a vital layer of mourning, in memory of those we are sure to meet again. ~Nancy Cobb, in "In Lieu of Flowers"

It’s a tragedy when a life
is needlessly lost.  It’s devastating when the cause of that loss takes four lives at once.  Such was the case on Hwy 68 just west of Golden Valley, Az. in 2003.

Eric Ruiz, Roy Latimer, John “Ed” Walker and Dan Zasadni were killed when the car pool van they were riding in collided with a pickup truck.  The men were commuting to work early in the morning when their van was struck by a drunk driver, 22 year old Daniel Brackney of Kingman, AZ.  Brackney and his 24 year old passenger suffered only minor injuries.

The roadside tribute to the four can be found on Hwy 68 just east of Egar between mile marker 16 and 17 in Golden Valley, AZ.

On Old Hwy 66, between Golden Valley and
Oatman AZ, is the remains of once busy gas station...Cool Springs.  The station is now a gift shop well worth visiting.  At the edge of the parking lot, you will find the DESCANSO.  Follow Hwy 66 into Oatman and you'll find no less than 15 roadside memorials including a secluded "grotto" of 10 Descanos.

PLEASE PLAY THIS SELECTION WHILE VIEWING THOSE REMEMBERED AT THE OATMAN GROTTO................

Oatman, AZ. is a thriving Ghost Town along old Route 66 and just up the hill from Laughlin, NV.  Just 13 miles out of Bullhead City, the town, with it’s wild burros…who roam the streets at their leisure…is a sight to see within itself.  Not far from this sweet town is another sight that should not be missed.  Between Oatman and Cool Springs, on the old highway is a small turnoff.  A brown, wooden cross reminding us of the loss of DeAnna Cotton, sits at the entrance to a grotto of Descansos.  A path leads up a small hill and over a knoll giving way to a beautiful view of the surrounding valley.  Nine memorials stand on the plateau and several others, beyond recognition, lay in various stages of ruin.

Some memorials gave us little or no information and, at the time of this writing, no information has been obtained about any of those who passed.  However, all appear to have been motorcycle accidents and most have biker memorabilia attached to crosses or laying in the surrounding rock.

This is a place worth visiting!

When walking up the dirt path toward the plateau just above DeAnna Cotton's memorial the first marker you see is the one for Ron Peacock... The passage below is from this marker...

Cast my ashes to the wind
and think of me as
young again.
Somewhere ,where my
brothers ride
And know that I'm by your side.
Looking down from up above
watching over you with
all my love
So hop on that
Ol' school ride and follow me
I'll be your guide....

  In Loving Memory
